Am I finally doing this?

You see, I've had a website "under construction" for a long time now. When I learned that I'd be relocating to Germany, I thought I'd blog about it. I figured I would write about the trials and tribulations of preparing for an international move, settling into life in my new country, going on fun adventures and stumbling through the language—your typical expat misadventures/travel blog sort of thing. But then I didn't. Not because I didn't particularly want to, I just...didn't. I registered a domain name, paid a monthly hosting fee, set everything up to work from Wordpress, and even bought a fancy template with all sorts of neat features.

And yet, I stagnated. I'd spend a few hours tooling around here and there, experimenting with settings and spending entirely too much time debating fonts and various design aspects. I'd figure something out only to notice that a plugin (or the entire template itself) had a new update pending the next time I logged in, which led to more messing around to figure out the changes, which led to more debates with myself about how things looked, which led to exactly zero forward progress, rinse and repeat.

So, in the spirit of admitting when it was time to cut my losses and move on, I decided to scrap the whole thing and start over, adopting a less-is-more approach. That's why my website is simply my name instead of something catchy or amusing. That's why I'm running with a minimalist design. I can always change those things later, but for now, I just want to write. I want to talk about the places I've been, the food I like to eat, the dishes I'm tackling in the kitchen, and whatever else might come to mind, without the [self-inflicted] pressure of making sure it fits into one particular mold. We'll see where the content takes us. For now, you can learn more about me here.
